CS Lewis – Bringing faith into focus!

Have you ever felt fuzzy about your faith? Have you ever fumbled, even blushed when someone asked you about what you believe and why? That is quite natural. And it is nothing to feel ashamed about. For most adults, any formal instruction in their faith occurred back in Sunday School or Confirmation.

This fall I am teaching a course that is designed to help you put your faith into focus. I invite you to join me every Wednesday night at 7:00pm in the PLC sanctuary. I will be leading a discussion of the major works of CS Lewis. I am not alone in stating that Lewis is the best and clearest voice of the Christian faith since St. Paul. He is truly amazing, the 13th Apostle!

This course will be a friendly discussion. My goal is to help you understand the key claims of the Gospel. Lewis is brilliant at setting forth these topics. However, like a good cup of tea, you need to let his thoughts steep awhile before their flavors come out! We will let his words interact with the Bible and our own experiences and discover new perspectives.
This will not be a course to gather ammunition to defend the faith or attack others with bullet points. Jesus calls us to be disciples, not debaters. Too often talk around God and religion becomes a contest with winners and losers.

One of my favorite verses is I Peter 3:15 –

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” The Apostle Peter reminds us there is an infectious hope built into our hearts on account of our faith in Jesus. Hope, like a flower, attracts by its aroma and colors. My goal is to help your faith blossom and make it your own.
