Prairie Lutheran Church is committed to building a community of Disciples. One way to accomplish this goal is through mission opportunities that enable individuals to serve and learn together. Mission opportunities are scheduled throughout the year for all ages to grow in their faith.
India Partners serves through Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry. PLC has helped by partnering with Arcot Lutheran Church to provide education and care of extremely poor children. You can become a sponsor of a child and/or go on a service learning trip to Tamal Nadu, India.
LPGM is a Minneapolis based ministry with missions in India, Africa, and South America. Prairie Lutheran partners with LPGM through the following ministries: student sponsorship, library sponsorships, mission trips, and funding projects.
One of the goals of Prairie Lutheran Church is to bear witness to Jesus to the very ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). In partnership with Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry, one of our focuses is on India. Our purpose is to partner with Arcot Lutheran Church of South India to support the education and care of very poor village children. This project supports over 1,400 children. In 2004, we raised $90,000 as part of our mission campaign.
In January 2006, a 200-bed dormitory for the Saron Boys’ Boarding School in South India was completed. The large majority of students would not be able to attend school if they could not benefit from such a facility. We continue to support this mission by sponsoring children through our Children’s Ministry and by individual families.
Members from Prairie Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie recently returned from a mission trip to India. PLC has been a partner with Project Education India through Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry for eleven years. Prairie Lutheran donated funds to build a new elementary school and had previously built the Prairie Dormitory. While in India the team taught classes at the new school, distributed books and supplies, and toured Empower Work Centers which rescue women and children from the streets. PLC Sunday School kids also sent pictures and school supplies with the team. Project Education India supports the poorest children in India with food, lodging, clothing and an education. Prairie Lutheran members sponsor over 60 students ages 6-18 through Project Education India. If you would like to help bring hope to children in need, contact us to learn more.
LPGM is seeking sponsors to support these children by providing funds for shelter, food, clothing, medical care and school supplies.
Doulos Discovery School in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, has been our partner ministry for almost 10 years. PLC members have visited and served at this Christian, bilingual, pre-K to 12th grade school. Opportunities to sponsor students as they prepare for a life of Christian leadership in the DR are available. You can also support by participating on a service learning, family trip.
There are opportunities to sponsor children in need of education, food, and medical care. You may sponsor a child with either a Half or Full sponsorship and connect with them via letters or even visit them on a mission trip. Or, you may make a Direct Donation to the Support Fund. All support improves the lives and future of these children. Please visit Doulos Discovery School's website at: www.doulosdiscovery.org for details.
Healing Haiti is a Christ-centered ministry that exists to unify Haitian families so the cycle of poverty can be broken and the fabric of the community strengthened. You can support Healing Haiti by going on a mission trip, sponsoring an orphan or elder, or through financial support.
The healing Haiti ministry update:
Nancy Louis and Carol Segersin, co-leaders of the Healing Haiti pillowcase dress making event held in August would like to update you on the delivery of dresses. In November, Lisa Rykken-Kastler brought 40 dresses with her on a trip to Haiti. In December, Mary Jo Ose met with a group to pray over an additional 195 items (shorts and dresses in three sizes) that will be brought with them to Haiti in January!
Dresses and shorts continue to be made by members of PLC. (Stacey Koehler took supplies for 20 dresses with her on a crafting weekend!). If you would like to contribute your talents to this ministry in the coming months or if you have pillowcases to donate, please contact Carol Segersin (952-212-2817 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
