Dear Team,

Spring has finally sprung. Congratulations, we made it through a very long winter. Last week was Easter and everything is starting to bloom. Hurray!

At Prairie Lutheran Church, spring is the time for our annual Stewardship campaign. Each year we take time to thank God for our many blessings and pray how we can be generous with our lives and assets.

This spring our theme revolves around the game of tennis! That’s right, the game with the bright yellow balls. Consider the similarity between Tennis and Giving. I want to start by referring to St. Paul and his promise from the Letter to the Ephesians. In chapter 4, verse 12 he states, ‘So Christ gave himself to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.’

When we are called to follow Jesus, we are called to activate the faith within us in order to build up the church, the body of Christ. One of the best ways to build a strong faith and a strong community is through generous giving!

This spring we are using the game of tennis to communicate the joy and purpose of giving at Prairie Lutheran Church. The goal is simple; we want you to improve your serve!

During our Sunday mornings in the month of May we will be inviting you to understand the gifts we have and the goals we are reaching towards. First of all, we are blessed to be blessings. Our lives, our bodies, our families, our faith – are all gifts from God. Amazing gifts!

Second, we are looking to add a very important member to our team; an Associate Pastor. This will add ‘bench strength’ to our ministry. It will also add dollars to our budget. I invite you to be part of the team and help us improve our serve. Whether exercising or giving, the more you stretch the stronger you become.

During our Mission Moments in May we will be serving up fun ways you can learn, grow and improve your serve and build up the body of Christ!

Love – love.

Pastor Joel

PrairiE-Giving is a safe and secure method for making offering contributions to Prairie Lutheran Church. It replaces the traditional method wherein a check or cash is sealed in offering envelope.

On Sunday mornings members like to place their offering in the plate when it is passed. There are PrairiE-Giving cards in the sanctuary chair backs that you can use. When the offering tray is passed simply place that card in the tray as a symbol and act of your ongoing support of the mission of Prairie Lutheran Church.

Benefits of using electronic PrairiE–Giving method:

  1. Regularizes your giving and avoids missed contributions because of travel, illness
      or other schedule interruptions.
  2. The operating fund maintains a more constant and reliable revenue stream.
  3. Follows the Biblical recommendation,
“On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of
        money in
keeping with his income.” 1 Corinthians 16:2

To begin using PrairiE–Giving simply open this link, print off a copy of the enrolment form, fill it in and return to the church office. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Director of Business Operations, Corwin Holk at 952-829-0525.

God loves the cheerful giver!

Our 2018-19 congregational Holy Habit theme centers on the spiritual practice of Giving. This year we are embracing the call to Cheerful Giving. There will be two initiatives,     in the fall The Talent Challenge and in the winter a Blessing Bags. To read more about The Talent Challenge click here >>>. Extravagant generosity is a phrase that summarizes God’s character. Chiefly, God is always giving away his love. From creating life ‘in the beginning’ to giving his son for eternal life, God is endlessly generous.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to a life of generosity in all we do. That includes what we do with our money and assets. Jesus spoke so much about the source, the power, and the distraction of wealth. He taught and modeled the truth that in grasping we lose; in giving we receive.

At Prairie Lutheran, we acknowledge that everything we have is a gift from God. It is our privilege to live and give and pay forward the abundance we have received. We are bold, therefore, to share our money as one way to glorify God. We do this not out of pressure, for “each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver,” II Cor. 9:7

Every year we ask members of Prairie Lutheran Church to cheerfully give of their abundance to support the Christ-centered ministries of the congregation. What a joy that our children, youth and families are all being equipped with an active and confident faith. Over the years God-sized visions have been accomplished, including supporting global missions, local ministries, being debt free, and sending our youth on annual mission trips.

Giving is one of our core Five Holy Habits. When it comes to giving we basically do two things: we Ask and we say Thank You! Sounds a lot like Jesus when he fed the 5,000! There is always more than enough. That is why the heart of giving is extravagant generosity!

On Sunday, October 8, 2017, Prairie Lutheran Church celebrated a huge milestone in its
ministry. On February 17, 2017, the congregation became debt free by paying off its entire mortgage. On Sunday, October 8, the congregation celebrated this blessing with a mortgage burning worship service. At both the 9:00 & 11:00am services, a ceremonial copy of the mortgage was lit a-fire to symbolize the release from this obligation. It took just 15 years for members of the congregation to liquidate nearly 4 million dollars of debt and extend its ministry. Besides the mortgage commitment, dollars were also given to fund the construction of a dormitory and class rooms in India, classrooms in the Dominican Republic, as well as fund the start of the PLC pastoral intern program. Area ministries like PROP and Our Savors Shelter also received sizable donations. This was a God-sized accomplishment! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Since we are free from debt, we are now free for mission. During 2018 they church council has been studying ways to expand our ministry into the future. We are passionate about opening our doors to the community and expanding our contact with the world down the street and across the globe. Stay tuned for an announcement of our next campaign; Open Doors in 2019.
